Elected officials nationwide shared remembrances following the passing of the former vice president, with the former president characterizing his ex-deputy as "a reliable anchor in the White House throughout great national challenges."
Statements of Remembrance
Bush wrote in a statement that he would honor his legacy "as a man of integrity and honor" and that history would remember him "as an exemplary government leader of his generation – an American patriot who brought integrity, sharp intellect and commitment to duty to every position he held."
The legislator from Cheney's home state expressed admiration. "Wyoming mourns the passing of the statesman from Wyoming," he posted online.
"His unflinching leadership shaped many of the biggest moments in domestic and U.S. foreign policy for generations. Dick will be remembered as an influential leader who helped guide the course of history in Wyoming, the United States, and internationally."

Elected officials nationwide also shared perspectives regarding the former second-in-command.
"He dedicated numerous years to serving the United States–through various branches of government," wrote Ohio's GOP legislator. "He demonstrated resolute devotion to our country's defense, power, and constitutional principles."
The legislator from the Hawkeye State wrote: "Regardless of position, Secretary of Defense, or as a legislator, Dick Cheney was always proud to be an American. His dedication to combating extremism ensured there was never another 9/11. He served his country honorably and dutifully. He will be fondly remembered."
Personal Reflections
Ohio governor, Mike DeWine shared: "Our initial acquaintance began when we were fellow legislators and he was in the GOP leadership team. He was thoughtful, reliable, and a representative for his constituents. Our nation saw his leadership as Pentagon chief, overseeing defense operations during the Middle Eastern conflict. Vice President Cheney served loyally in each position he occupied. We mourn his passing."
Ex-state legal official and legislator, the former official, reflected upon their time in federal government. "He demonstrated character, an exceptional leader and a loyal citizen," Schuette wrote.
The organization leader, head of the conservative institute the Washington institution, commented on the loss of its past associate. "He demonstrated power in the right-leaning political sphere and created significant change on the nation," Doar wrote.
Administration Statements
The current administration has still to make an official announcement. Donald Trump was active on social media this morning but has not commented on Cheney's death.
